Earmarking in Ghana: Impacts on the Financial Sustainability of National Health Insurance

In 2003, Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was established using a set of unique earmarked funding sources to help move the country toward Universal Health Coverage. This funding provided a critical source of domestic revenue that allowed Ghana to remove its previous “cash and carry” system and implement one of the best-known public insurance schemes in the region.

A Decade of the Joint Learning Network: A Vision Realized

Launched over a decade ago, the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage (JLN) has grown to be a community of practitioners and policymakers from 34 countries around the world who engage in practitioner-to-practitioner learning. Through the network, countries find practical solutions to their shared challenges in achieving universal health coverage.
