Last year, the WHO organized a series of webinars about public financial management in health that highlighted country experiences and expertise. Many of these sessions included JLN members and partners sharing their thoughts.

The recordings have now been published as a series of video podcasts that can be streamed on the WHO website. The topics include:

      1. Role of public financial management functions and reforms in health
      2. Budget formulation issues in the health sector
      3. Budget execution issues in the health sector
      4. Links between budget reforms and provider payment systems
      5. Budget accountability: financial transparency and accountability towards sector outputs
      6. Budgeting for health in devolved settings

Are there any important public financial management challenges that you see affecting the health sector? Please reply and share below.

Yes, Budget Formulation and Budget Execution rate are the challenges in Myanmar Health Sector because we are still using the input based line-item budgeting system for health service delivery and program based budgeting was used by donors and UN Agencies. So Health Program Managers are usually not familiar with line item budgeting system for their program planning and implementation, more use to be with program based budgeting. Although Country’s health budget need to be increased for escalating healthcare cost yearly, we are struggling with well budget planning and budget utilization efficiently. Thank you for sharing these video podcasts. Best, YMH
